POWER 50 LISTMAKERS

Elevating Leaders Influencing Internationally

When we speak of international affairs, we embrace a broad, dynamic definition that extends beyond traditional diplomacy and international development. Our lens includes all sectors that shape the global landscape—politics, business, and culture. Our list highlights individuals of African descent who are current and rising leaders in these spaces—those advancing impact, strategy, and narrative on a global stage.

The individuals highlighted in this list are of African descent and are among the most influential and rising global leaders across these arenas.

  • Political: These leaders shape governance, influence policy, and represent national and global interests in arenas that determine the future of international cooperation.

  • Business/Trade: Visionaries in business and trade are driving economic innovation, investment, and cross-border partnerships that redefine global markets and opportunity.

  • Cultural: Artists, creatives, and cultural leaders shape global narratives, shift public consciousness, and serve as informal diplomats through storytelling, fashion, art, and entertainment.

  • Media: Journalists, commentators, and digital creators inform public discourse, elevate underrepresented voices, and influence how global events are understood and remembered.

  • Humanitarianism: These changemakers lead efforts to address human need, advance justice, and deliver aid and advocacy across borders and crises.

  • Philanthropy: Philanthropic leaders mobilize resources, build institutions, and invest in long-term solutions that empower communities and accelerate global progress.

Note: Cultural influencers are included because they play a critical role in shaping global perception, identity, and soft power. In today’s interconnected world, storytelling, media, fashion, art, and entertainment are not peripheral to international affairs—they are central to how nations, communities, and movements are seen, understood, and engaged. Cultural leaders help define global narratives, shift public consciousness, and often serve as informal diplomats bridging borders and communities. Their inclusion reflects a modern, multidimensional view of global impact that recognizes influence beyond policy and into the hearts and minds of people worldwide.
